When I started in real estate, I didn’t even know I needed a mentor. I had come from the corporate world where my boss was responsible for my training and making sure I was ready to do the job. I assumed the same would hold true for the real estate office I worked for. I mean, I was paying them a hefty monthly fee, they had promoted all this training and the benefits of being at a ‘large name’ office and all I knew was: boss+training=good to go . I was wrong. I had so many basic questions: like how do I log into MLS? Where do I find all these forms I just studied for months in phase 3? Despite having studied ‘errors’ on all the documents, when it came to filling out my first listing agreement: I was clueless. And that shook me because I HAD taken all the courses and considered myself to be quite smart, but all of a sudden I didn’t know how to do something that was supposed to be a basic task. That’s when I clued in: ahhhh they didn’t teach me ANYTHING practical. I was in need of help and STAT if I didn’t want to blow major deals. I needed a mentor. Not an easy feat in most offices for new agents. But luckily, I got one. And not just any mentor—I hit the jackpot.
She didn’t just teach me the basics; she gave me the kind of guidance and support that shaped my career. She was the one who showed me how to create document templates—offer agreements, listing presentations, all the key pieces. She made sure I had the best clauses and the strongest foundation.
I’ll never forget my very first offer presentation. I wasn’t terrified, but I was absolutely a deer in headlights. I had no idea offer presentations were even a thing, let alone that there’s an art to them. Without my mentor there, I would’ve fallen flat. While I didn’t win that offer night, boy, was I prepared for the next one.
That experience taught me something huge: sales is an art. And it’s not something you’re taught in real estate school. Sure, I’d been in sales my whole life (started as a wee little thing selling Girl Guide cookies!), so I had a foundation of skills—but selling in real estate was a completely different ballgame. Imagine stepping into this industry with zero sales background? It’s these nuances, these little details, that make all the difference in setting yourself up for success.
Without my mentor, I wouldn’t be where I am. She taught me how to focus on the details that elevate you as an agent—the things that make you stand out, so you’re not just “another agent” in a sea of agents. From the day-to-day skills to the mindset of a top performer, she gave me the tools I needed to thrive.
What I experienced is not the norm. Too many agents don’t get that kind of mentorship. They’re thrown into the deep end with little guidance, left to figure it out on their own. And that’s exactly why I’m so passionate about what I do now.
This is why I built the real estate mastery program and created this community. I want to be the kind of guide my mentor was for me. Whether it’s coaching agents on their systems, helping them build confidence, or just sharing small tips which have really saved me so much money in my career.
This is more than a career for me. It’s a way to give back to an industry I love and to make sure other agents don’t have to go it alone.
